About the Inventor: I'm a Dog Parent like you, my pup Cooper hurt his back. I was devastated.

"I just wanted to make sure my love was not lost too early, and to give Cooper a fighting chance.' I like rainbows, but this was a bridge I did not want to cross, yet.

Hello! I'm Dr. Huma Pierce, loving dog Mom of two elder poodles. One 8 year old rescue- "Lucky" and the other is her 18 year old- "Loyal".

I applied 25 years of postural work in biomechanics to the quadruped population. With a degree in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Toronto, I began designing braces for her dogs. In 2018, my Cooper hurt 2 discs in his back and began to exhibit signs of lameness. I freaked out! I knew this could potentially be the end!

After a cortisone shot at the Emergency Vet Clinic and a poor prognosis, I asked for a gentle dynamic back brace to stabilize Cooper's back. I assumed the Vet clinic had something for Cooper. They didn't, the only options were more life reducing drugs, shots, and surgery. Cooper was too fragile for all of that.  I needed something that could stabilize him while allowing him to move, lay down, and help him heal comfortably. So, I rolled up my sleeves and embarked on a quest to help him. I refused to quit or take what was dealt to me without a fight. Cooper is my ride or die.

I then learned of a well respected veterinary rehabilitation clinic that was actually near my house, Portland Oregon. I desperately needed to find a Veterinarian that was cutting edge, someone who didn't just rely on drugs and surgery. Dr. Bianca Shaw was that veterinarian, and was inspired to help me test my braces to improve Cooper's mobility. Over the next 5 years, it was a partnership built not just on helping my Cooper, but on improving the quality of life of all older and injured dogs. Hundreds of iterations later, the vest and sleeve design that I cobbled out of soccer socks, came true. Dr. Shaw tested them for me in her clinic and it worked! It became the first sleeve based gentle resistance, elastic leg lifting, restoring balance and symmetry brace available without a prescription.

Lucky and Loyal is canine integrative medicine at it's best.
